The Macomb-Oakland Regional Center, Inc.’s (MORC) mission
is “dedicated to serving men, women, and children with
differing abilities so they may, as true citizens, celebrate
life, freedom, and independence in the community.”
Since 1972, MORC has been supporting the dreams of individuals
with disabilities and their right to make choices about their
lives. Throughout MORC’s
History, the agency has helped thousands of people with
disabilities and their families live the kind of lives they
want and deserve.
As a private, nonprofit, human services agency, MORC provides
supports and respite care for more than 4,000 children and
adults with developmental and psychiatric disabilities. MORC
utilizes a Person-Centered Planning process, promoting choice,
and offers a wide array of services. The agency is committed
to the principles of Self-Determination and Self-Actualization.
With an international reputation for excellence, MORC has
received Worldwide
Visitors studying its programs. MORC has received dozens
of awards, including recognition from three U.S. presidential
administrations.
Since 1986, MORC has implemented the principles of Gentle
Teaching, which teaches a person to feel safe and loved.
As a nonprofit agency, MORC contracts with and receives funding
from local community mental health boards and authorities
and Michigan Department of Community Mental Health. MORC subcontracts
with more than 200 nonprofit agencies within its communities.
MORC works in association with many other agencies, including
Michigan Department of Human Services, Michigan Rehabilitation
Services (MRS), and local and intermediate school districts,
to name a few.
MORC is accredited by CARF for supports coordination in Community,
Employment, and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services.
