CARF Survey Calls MORC’s Various Programs “Exemplary”
A Three-Year Accreditation from CARF was awarded to six
services and programs of the Macomb-Oakland Regional Center,
Inc. (MORC), a nonprofit, human service agency, which assists
4,500 people with disabilities.
CARF accreditation represents the highest level of endorsement
achievable. The accreditation, which will extend through
April 2010, results from findings during CARF's on-site survey
of MORC in March 2007.
The following information, in its own words, is from the
CARF Survey Report, which calls these three MORC areas “exemplary:”
- “The philosophy of Gentle Teaching and the training
provided to staff members and other stakeholders create
a positive approach to caregiving and a calming atmosphere
for persons served and staff members.”
- “MORC has developed a very successful training
program on peer leadership. Persons served and their family
members
may choose to coordinate their own team meetings, or they
may select other trained persons served and/or family members
as their team coordinator.”
- “The advances and enhancements being made to MORC’s
information technology system are commendable for the many
benefits they are bringing to the organization.”
Referring to MORC stakeholders, the CARF Survey Report states, “Persons
served and other stakeholders are satisfied with the staff
members and the services they provide. Persons served and
families express great satisfaction with the services and
training they have received, and they express appreciation
for the encouragement given by staff members and the respect
felt throughout the organization.”
According to MORC Executive Director Gerald Provencal, “This
was a tremendous accomplishment for MORC. Many people put
many hours into the accreditation process, and they are to
be congratulated.”
Overall, the accreditation by CARF includes the following areas:
Community Services: Case Management/Services
Coordination, Family Services, Host Family Services and Respite
Services;
Employment Services: Employment Services
Coordination; and
Case Management/Services Coordination: Psychosocial Rehabilitation
(Adults). CARF is an international,
independent, not-for-profit accrediting body whose mission
is to promote the quality, value and optimal outcomes of
services through a consultative accreditation process that
centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served.
This marks the fourth time MORC services and programs have
received a Three-Year Accreditation from CARF. MORC, which
is celebrating its 35th Anniversary, has offices in Clinton
Township and Auburn Hills. For more information about MORC,
