MORC receives calls from people asking how they can become
more involved. They sometimes ask, “What do you need
me to do?”
Many people decide to become active in one of the MORC committees,
including its Consumer
Advisory Panel and Recreational
Empowerment Committee.
MORC urges all individuals receiving services to fill out
the Consumer
Satisfaction Survey they receive in the mail annually.
This is your opportunity to give MORC feedback on its services
and a way for MORC to improve its services.
Many people become informed by attending Workshops
and Seminars sponsored by MORC, while others attend important
meetings locally and around the state. Some attend their local
Community Mental Health board meetings or the MORC Board of
Directors meetings.
Some people become active in the MORC Adopt-A-Smile
Dental Campaign. Because of cutbacks, many people assisted
by MORC have inadequate dental services. This campaign is
an attempt to get your dentist to give free or reduced cost
services to a person assisted by MORC.
Besides becoming active in their local Arcs, many people
have joined AMORC,
the Association for the Macomb-Oakland Regional Center. AMORC
is an Arc Associate and is the official advocacy organization
for the 4,000 children and adults that MORC assists. You are
invited to attend one of AMORC’s monthly Board meetings
or become active on one of AMORC’s committees.
Finally, some people are interested in either volunteering
or making donations. The
Futures Foundation, which raises money for children and
adults assisted by MORC, has many special events in which
you can become involved.
