MORC’s respite program provides intermittent, short-term, hourly, or overnight relief for families taking care of an individual with a developmental disability. The program offers a variety of care options for individuals with a developmental disability allowing family members to go out for the evening, take a vacation, take care of other needs, or simply take a break.
Who is eligible?
Families of children and adults with developmental disabilities who are currently living with their parent(s) or guardian in Oakland County, Michigan.
What types of respite services are available?
- Home Respite: A relative or friend chosen by the individual with a developmental disability and his or her parent(s) or guardian provides care.
- Residential Respite: Short-term stay at a licensed, residential respite home.
- Recreational Respite: Enrollment in some camp programs or in recreation programs provided through contracted Oakland County schools for people with developmental disabilities up to age 26.
- Shared Parenting: Natural families recruit one or two other families to share the caretaking role.
How Much Does It Cost?
Payment for respite services depends upon the family’s ability to pay. No one is denied service based on lack of financial resources.
