Supporting Kids and Strengthening Families

jacobandjoshwilsonMORC understands the value of maintaining children in a family environment and preserving the integrity of the family itself. Over the years, we’ve liberated hundreds of children from institutions by finding them foster and adoptive families or by reuniting them with their birth families. We pioneered the family support subsidy and taught many parents the concept of Gentle Teaching. We’ve offered in home training and respite services to thousands of families and attended transition plans in schools throughout Macomb and Oakland counties.

Today, we offer more services than ever and provide them with same sense of mission and advocacy.

Family Centered Planning: Our Support Coordinators help families develop a family centered plan, assist the family in identifying resources to meet the needs of both the child and family, and coordinate services. Plans incorporate the principles of gentle teaching and may include relationship building skills, relaxation techniques, parent training and more.

Children’s Waiver Program: This is a federal entitlement program for children with developmental disabilities and complex medical and or behavioral needs. For eligible participants, services include family and staff training and specialty services that could include nursing, speech, recreational, and dietary. The program also helps with community living supports, transportation, respite care, durable medical equipment and accessibility adaptations.  This program is not available to children with Medicaid or MIChild insurance.

Intensive Family Support: This intensive, home-based program is available for a small number of families in Oakland County with children between the ages of 3 and 18 where there are barriers to reaching one’s potential. The program helps families with children who have mental health and skill development issues. It also addresses sibling issues, family interaction issues, grief and loss issues and community integration.

Transition Services: As your child approaches adulthood, the Supports Coordinator will assist you and your child in identifying supports and services that may be available.  Supports may include:  Social Security benefits, Medicaid, Adult Home Help, Food Stamps, etc.

Foster Care: We recruit and license foster parents in Macomb and Oakland counties to provide children with loving families. We help the children, foster families and birth families work together through the foster care process. We also offer ongoing family training, individual or family therapy, and work with school staff to provide a positive educational setting.

Treatment Foster Care:  Treatment Foster Care is a foster family-based treatment program that trains, reimburses and supports foster families who provide treatment homes for children and adolescents.  MORC serves children and youth whose special needs cannot be met in their own families.  MORC's treatment foster parents care for youth with serious emotional and/or behavioral problems.
