In addition to requiring everyone who provides direct care to complete Working with People units of MORC Entry Level Training, new team members also receive consumer-specific in-home training with their manager. All caregivers are required to read each consumer’s plan of service at least annually and certain aspects of the plan are discussed during mandatory monthly Team Meetings. We believe that a Culture of Gentleness starts with learning, and preparing our staff is the most effective way to truly open up the lives we serve while also creating stronger bonds between our Consumers, our staff, and those in our communities.

Our company has been developing and administering permanent residential facilities and providing support services for over 30 years. In 1983, Paul Thomas, Jr. our founder, Board President, and father of two children with developmental disabilities, began to advocate for his children’s place in the community. The journey started with a single home in Royal Oak. Paul’s belief that disabled adults want to live in their own home, hold a job, and be contributing members of the community was validated, and Community Homes was born. In the ensuing 30 years, our organization has grown, but it has never wavered from the commitment to enhance the lives of those we serve.
