Webinar – The Art of Verbal De-escalation

This learning experience is intended to assist you in identifying the sources and impetus of verbal conflicts, and the opportunities and tools necessary to stop escalation.  During this one hour webinar, participants will:

  1. Understand the “LSCI Conflict Cycle.”
  2. Be able to recognize the “Messengers.”
  3. Know how and when to best utilize the elements of Gentle Teaching to de-escalate a verbal interaction.
  4. Understand how to maintain the “Triange” throughout the interaction.
  5. Recognize the four “Exits” to walk a person out of the verbal escalation.

The speaker is Andy Sonntag.  Mr. Sonntag entered the Human Services field with Life Center, Inc. in 1989 assisting individuals with mental illnesses reintegrate into the community. He began working with Licensed AFC Programs in 1990, and has done so ever since. He is currently the Program Coordinator for Life Center’s Wayne County Residential Programs, certified Gentle Teaching Trainer with CPLS, and Master Level CPI Trainer certified in Basic, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Enhancing Verbal Skills, and NCI Hybrid CPI training models. Mr. Sonntag attributes his most important teachers to have been the individuals he has provided services to over the years, having taught him the principles of Gentle Teaching and the great importance of partnering with them instead of pushing them through daily agendas. He is grateful to Life Center for remaining true to their motto “Making a difference, one life at a time” over the years, and maintaining the environment necessary for both him and the persons supported to grow and learn.
